REVIEW 2017
At the edge of the plain of Ivrea, shaped by an immense glacier during the Quaternary, it is located a hilly barrier called Serra where on 5 hectares of land, between the Serra Morenica and Lake Viverone, lie the vineyards of La Masera. Local nickname, La Masera, is used to indicate the thick stone walls, “Masere”, that demarcate the fields, just like the one that supports in his terracing the first land purchased to start the business. A production that takes into account only native grape varieties such as Freisa, Vespolina, Neretto, Nebbiolo, Barbera and Erbaluce di Caluso. And it is precisely the latter to dominate the scene with two inflections: white, for aromatic vivacity and usability, and sweet, the one that with all its precious cargo of uniqueness and charm stands at the top of the battery presented for tasting. Wines that represent the real strengths of the vinery, made from a Piedmont historic grape, that of course draws specificity and uniqueness from the magic soil composition, but which is then interpreted to the best by the winemakers David Boglia and Claudio Dacasto with the collaboration of the agronomist Domenico Franco. Do not underestimate the rest of the production, with the Canavese Nebbiolo, which distinguished itself by showing a compelling appeal, and the delicious Canavese Rosato. So there is something for everyone!
Anima 2015: straw yellow with green highlights. To the nose it is pleasantly citrusy with notes of cedar and lemon zest, fruity with green apple and white peach, floral with hawthorn on a delicately mineral and vegetable fund. Good flavor to the drink, lively freshness and net returns with almonds in the finish. Steel for 6 months.
Macaria 2014: bright straw yellow. Varied and intriguing smell range of lime, lily, white freesia, mulberry, peach tabacchera, ripe grapefruit, vanilla, white pepper and candied ginger, framed by lively minerality. Velvet sip, supported and underpinned by fresh citrus with floral and vegetable final. 30% of the mass in steel and 70% in barrique for 10 months.
Venazia 2007: amber light. To the nose: complex and refined by dried figs, barley sugar, chestnut honey, peach in syrup, dried apricot, walnut, amaretto, sugared almonds, saffron and cotton candy on a slightly iodized and ethereal background. To the palate: dense, succulent with a fresh echo that balances the final. Barriques for 30 months.
Rosato 2015: cherry with auburn streaks. Mineral beginning, almost bloody, then fresh cherry, wild strawberry, pink grapefruit, Carcade leaves and pink pepper. Graceful to the palate, with a long trail of citrus and cherry. Steel for 4 months.
Bolle 2011: intense cherry with coral flashes. It opens to sensations of cyclamen, crunchy red cherry, pomegranate, wild strawberries and herbaceous and mineral notes. Fresh and fruity taste, with a light almond note in the finish. Steel for 6 months.
Monte Gerbido 2014: Ruby with purple mesh. Intense fruity aromas of black cherries, plum and currant that intertwine with floral notes of peonies, roses and freesias, a delicate spiciness and vegetable section. It flows on the palate with biting acidity to close with flavor and fruity notes. Steel for 6 months.
